Chief Seattle (Chief Si’ahl) was a famous 19th century Native American who came from the Duwamish Tribe. He was such an important figure that the city of Seattle is named after him in celebration of his efforts to forge a positive relationship between the native people and white immigrant settlers, and to fight for for officially recognised land rights for Native Americans. He was also noted for his focus on environmental responsibility and the protection of nature.
Chief Seattle was a highly respected leader and an ecologist noted for his focus on environmental responsibility and the protection of nature. A famous speech about about ecological responsibility and the Native’s land rights is attributed to him, although the original is lost and changed through translation and rewriting.
