Spring Equinox

We have come to a place of balance in the wheel of the year. Balance between night and day. Balance between old and new. And it is the perfect time for setting intentions and connecting to the things you want to grow–while nourishing your seedlings with wishes for them to bloom in your next season of life.

Spring Equinox is the day, where the sun passes Equator, and day and night is of equal length. It is a day to celebrate the balance of life as the Astrological New Year starts a new cycle and officially kicks off the season of Spring.

The astrological New Year

While we in the Western world primarily live by the Gregorian calendar, astrology and ancient tradition count time in a different frame.

According to the astrological calendar, the New Year falls on the day of Spring Equinox on March 20th. (Depending on where you live in the world, the exact Equinox can happen at any time between March 19th and 21st.) On this day, the sun has journeyed through the 12 zodiac signs, and will begin a new cycle once again. It’s like January 1st of the cosmos, where we are supported in starting entirely new chapters, open to new opportunities and take new chances.

In many historic cultures, the Spring Equinox also coincided with the New Year, where the ancients would celebrate the fertility of the earth and give thanks for the Spring. In Persia, around 500 AD, people celebrated the Vernal Equinox (still celebrated by Iranians today) as their New Year.

The Spring Equinox like the Autumn Equinox is a time of transition, and it’s important to stay grounded and find ways to sync with the season. Harnessing the clearing energy of Spring is paramount near on the Equinox. By this time, we should clear any last remains of things from our home bases, work, and personal relationships in order to make room for, what the new season will bring.

On the day of the Equinox, everything takes a turn, and a portal to new beginnings opens together with the beginning of the zodiac wheel. Spring Equinox is a day of renewal where we can open our arms and hearts to new energies and experiences to fill the empty space left behind by Winter. This is a time to leave behind the old and make heartfelt wishes for the future. A time for setting intentions and nurturing your dreamseeds with love.

Take a pause and celebrate the miracle of new Life as we celebrate the turning of the great wheel of Life. Set your intentions and plant new seeds for the future, you want to see.

Open yourself for transformation

A great way to connect to the new season and your next sun cycle is to have a little personal ritual. On the evening of the equinox you can create a small alter with the things, you want to grow in your next cycle around. You can find pieces from nature, your sketchbooks, fresh flowers and things, that symbolise fertility to you.

On the evening of the Equinox, set some time aside to simply be your alter, and listen to your heart. Start with acknowledging just how much you have changed, grown, shifted and transformed over the past 12 months. You can even write a letter or poem of love to yourself to give thanks to the person to took you through the last year journey.

Then start to feel into your longings. What are you longing to grow? What are you wishes for the future? You can start to write or draw whatever, what your heart imagines. Try not to filter what arrives. This your souls sacred time to express itself, and the intentions you set now, around the Spring Equinox, will have extra potential and support, so the more intention you plant into your spring awakening, the more magic you can invite into your experience.

Next year around the Spring Equinox, you can revisit your intention setting of this night and see what has happened along the one-year cycle.

Accept your gloom and accept your glory. Celebrate your new beginning by recycling your pain into your power.

Ostara

Ostara/eostre is the Germanic goddess of spring and dawn and a festival of the same name was formerly celebrated at the equinox.

It was she who brought back spring and she symbolizes fertility and growth. She is the goddess of everything new and everything that grows and sprouts. For baby animals and eggs and daffodils and games and anticipation and hope.

Ostara symbolizes fertility, rebirth, and renewal. This time of year marked the beginning of the agricultural cycle, and farmers would start planting seeds.

Connect to the fertility Goddess

The Spring Equinox welcomes a time of transformation, where Mother Earth is shifting into a state of fertility and growth, so try to find a space today to connect to this state-of-mind within yourself.

Allow yourself a moment of gratitude for the season of you that has come to an end. The season of you that has allowed you to be standing, where you are now, in your magnificence of everything you have learned through your last cycle around the sun.

Then celebrate the New Beginning you are granted today with the Spring Equinox. Just like in nature, we cannot go back to old forms, but we are continually being renewed - like all of the cells in our bodies. Find a way to mark this transition, if it’s only a deep breath, where you exhale the past year and inhale the promise of being alive.

If you can find the time, go for a walk today and connect to the land, make a wish for what you want to grow in your life or write a letter where you send thanks to Mother Earth and all the sprouting flowers in your life.

Blessings to all,

Go for a walk

Go for a walk in the woods or a stroll in the city, and be attentive to all the little spring messengers of growth and fertility. The spring flowers, a smile from a stranger, the beat of your own heart. Practice gratitude for the miracle of life in the most simple ways. Plant a Wish Seed

A small ritual that fits Spring Equinox perfectly is to plant a wish seed. Either in a glass vase or directly in the soil. Planting is a great way to slow down and connect to Mother Earth, hope and fertility, and it does not even require a garden space. It is for everyone. As you plant the seed, send your wishes to the seed. In the following days, remember to nourish your seed with water and pay attention to how it sprouts, takes root and grows.

Take Time to Create

Connect to the power of a new season by creating something for yourself. A painting, a poem, or a piece of ceramic. As you experiment with the power of creation, you connect to the power of play, where your life can unfold more with joy and ease, and you allow for the unexpected to surprise you. And as you cultivate your power to create, you will naturally empower your inherent skill for creating all sorts of things for yourself and others, things that in the end makes the world a more beautiful place.

Soul vitamin

This is a time to be brave, have trust and follow your innermost dreams. Take the risk of believing that anything can happen, leap with your longings, trust that you will land on your feet, and that your new journey will all be worth it.
