Spring Equinox
We have come to a place of BALANCE in the wheel of the year. Balance between NIGTH and DAY. Balance between OLD and NEW. This is the perfect time for setting INTENTIONS and connecting to the SEEDS you want to grow—with WISHES for them to bloom on your next journey around the Sun.
When: The Spring Equinox, occurring around March 20th or 21st, is the day when the Sun passes over the Equator, making day and night equal in length. It is a time to celebrate the balance of life as the Astrological New Year begins a new cycle, officially ushering in the season of spring.
Welcome the Astrological New Year
While we in the Western world primarily follow the Gregorian calendar, astrology and ancient traditions measure time differently.
According to the astrological calendar, the New Year falls on the Spring Equinox, around March 20th. (Depending on where you live, the exact Equinox can occur anytime between March 19th and 21st.) On this day, the Sun completes its journey through all 12 zodiac signs and begins a new cycle once again. It’s like the cosmic January 1st—a time when we are supported in setting out on new paths, writing fresh life chapters, embracing new opportunities, and taking bold chances.
In many ancient cultures, the Spring Equinox also marked the New Year. Civilizations honored this time by celebrating the earth’s fertility and giving thanks for the arrival of spring. Around 500 AD in Persia, people celebrated the Vernal Equinox as their New Year—a tradition that continues among Iranians today.
Like the Autumn Equinox, the Spring Equinox is a period of transition, making it essential to stay grounded and find ways to sync with the season. Harnessing the clearing energy of Spring is paramount near on the Equinox. By this time, we should clear any last remains of things from our home bases, work, and personal relationships in order to make room for, what the new season will bring.
On the day of the Equinox, everything shifts—a portal to new beginnings opens as the zodiac wheel resets. The Spring Equinox is a day of renewal, inviting us to open our hearts to fresh energies and experiences, filling the space left behind by winter. This is the time to release the old, make heartfelt wishes for the future, set intentions, and nurture your dream seeds with love.
Take a moment to pause and celebrate the miracle of new Life as we honour the turning of the great wheel of existence. Set your intentions and plant new seeds for the future you wish to create.

Open Yourself to Transformation
A wonderful way to connect with the new season and your next Sun cycle is by creating a personal ritual. On the evening of the Equinox, you can set up a small altar with items that represent what you wish to cultivate in the year ahead. You can gather pieces from nature, your sketchbooks, fresh flowers, and anything that symbolises fertility or new beginnings to you.
On the evening of the Equinox, take some time to simply be with your altar and listen to your heart. Begin by acknowledging just how much you have changed, grown, shifted, and transformed over the past 12 months. You may even choose to write a letter or poem of love to yourself, expressing gratitude to the person who carried you through the past year’s journey.
Then, tune into your longings. What do you wish to grow? What are your wishes for the future? Start writing or drawing whatever comes to your heart—without filtering or overthinking. This is your soul’s sacred time to express itself. The intentions you set now, around the Spring Equinox, hold extra power and support. The more energy and intention you plant into your spring awakening, the more magic you can invite into your life.
Next year around the Spring Equinox, you can revisit your intention setting of this night and reflect on all that has unfolded throughout the cycle.
Accept your gloom and accept your glory. Celebrate your new beginning by recycling your pain into your power.
Ostara: Ostara (or Eostre) is the Germanic goddess of spring and dawn, and a festival bearing her name was once celebrated at the equinox. It was she who brought back spring, symbolising fertility and growth. She is the goddess of all things new, as well as everything that grows and sprouts—baby animals, eggs, daffodils, games, anticipation, and hope. Ostara represents fertility, rebirth, and renewal. This time of year marked the beginning of the agricultural cycle, with farmers beginning to plant seeds.
Connect to the Fertility Goddess
The Spring Equinox welcomes a time of transformation, as Mother Earth shifts into a state of fertility and growth. Take some time today to connect with this state-of-mind within yourself.
Allow yourself a moment of gratitude for the season of you that has come to an end. Reflect on the season that has brought you to this point, standing in the magnificence of all you have learned throughout your last cycle around the Sun.
Then, celebrate the New Beginning granted to you today with the Spring Equinox. Just as in nature, we cannot return to old forms, but we are constantly being renewed—just like all of the cells in our bodies. Find a way to mark this transition, even if it’s simply a deep breath, where you exhale the past year and inhale the promise of being alive.
If you can, go for a walk today and connect to the land. Make a wish for what you want to grow in your life, or write a letter expressing your gratitude to Mother Earth and all the sprouting flowers in your life.
Blessings to all,
