April New Moon

The April New Moon is a pocket of peace and a journey into your deepest, truest self, as you dare to take your next steps with your intuition and instinct as your most trusted guides.

A Time of Transition

The April New Moon arrives in the midst of the spring season in the Northern Hemisphere—a time when mirabelle and cherry trees blossom, showering us with an abundance of petal-shaped promises.

April is the month when, after a long and dark winter, we are supported in finally releasing and beginning anew in our bodies and minds, and nature is the greatest teacher—and mirror—for this day-by-day process.

As the days become longer and warmer, we can finally step out of our cocoons and settle into the spring season with renewed energy and optimism, as we become mindful of the many changes and small miracles of life that unfold each day in nature at this time of year.

Tension of Old and New

Beneath the current of a season that invites us to once again let our hair down and dare to look at life through rose-coloured glasses, we might also feel an undercurrent of tension arising from what is still unfinished and lingering from our recent pasts.

This New Moon is calling us to look at these places in our lives and acknowledge the emotions that arise in the friction as our most trustworthy guides. As we are offered a clean slate, we are offered a mirror at the same time: to reflect on our paths and gifts, and to recognise where we have been overriding ourselves in our attempts to survive in the outer world, at the expense of our own thriving.

During this moon, we are supported in creating a better world by insisting on creating a better life for ourselves first. At times, when the world can feel chaotic, we are called to intentionally practise our own thriving and create pockets of peace in order to build a foundation of long-term emotional, physical, and spiritual resilience.

In a world that can at times feel as though it is unraveling—unsustainable for both Mother Earth and humankind—we have cultivated a culture of override, woven into the ways we relate to ourselves and to each other: an override of balance, of our emotions, of our intuition and instinct as our guides.

This is why it is of even greater importance that we cultivate the qualities and guidance of our intuition and emotions, and restore our relationship to them, strengthening these pathways within ourselves first.

This time, YOU get to choose. The universe is ready to tie the loose threads together with you into a new tapestry that is even more beautiful. Even more YOU.

A Call to Your Instinct

The April New Moon invites you to reconnect with your instinct, the nature within you that says ‘yes’ or ‘no’ through life’s ‘hots’ and ‘colds’ in a very simple way.

Life does not have to be complicated, but sometimes it feels that way because we get lost and entangle ourselves in paths and threads that do not truly belong to us.

I like to think of intuition as the whiskers of a cat, the antennae of an ant, or the sensory horn of a snail — a part of us that picks up the little nudges of the world: obstacles, possible dangers, and changes in the wind.

Instinct, on the other hand, is something more profound. It is a deep knowing in your body—the knee-jerk reaction to immediate danger or threat, but also the inner wisdom that guides how you live your life and the paths you choose for yourself. Instinct is the beast within you. And this is the time to listen to your most wild inner nature, when it tells you what is hot and cold.

Take a Leap of Faith

Often, the biggest reason we don’t follow our instinct — that deep intelligence inside us that just knows — is the fear of being seen.

As we go through life, we experience hurt and betrayal, and sometimes that hurt is linked to moments when we showed our innermost selves and were met with criticism or rejection. When we made ourselves vulnerable to the opinions of others, we may not have received the loving reactions we had hoped for — maybe indifference at best, maybe criticism at worst.

Coming back to what is true for you, and learning how to offer your gifts to the world, is a lifelong journey of live-and-learn. It is one of the great re-learnings of adulthood: to un-own past hurt and childhood trauma, and to start making life choices from the autonomy of your inner knowing.

As adults, we are independent of our caretakers’ approval. We have the freedom to choose how we want to live and express ourselves — yet often, our choices are still on autopilot, shaped by old inter-relational patterns from family and society.

Taking a leap of faith doesn’t always mean jumping off a metaphysical cliff or ‘burning your boats.’ Sometimes, it can be the subtle, quiet rebellion of turning inward toward your inner knowing. Taking a leap of faith can mean trying to leave the reactions of others out of the equation for a while, and instead basing your choices on what nourishes you. We have likely learned by now that how others reflect our choices is beyond our control.

Create New Patterns

Choices and chances are part of the leap of faith — but they come with a different kind of reward. When we stay true to ourselves and show our colours to the world, we light up — and the right people can find us. This is the gift of faith-leaping. It can become a wonderful adventure of (self-)discovery and kinship, all in one boat.

Think of this New Moon as a blank canvas, where you can begin again. Try to experiment with leaving your rational mind and conditioned habits behind for a short while, as you take a moment to brush your first strokes—a moment to let your intuition and instinct speak their truth about your way forward.

This New Moon invites you to walk a new path and enter new territory, as you weave a new life for yourself and those around you.

Take a leap and see where you land. Don’t be afraid. Love yourself for being soooooo beautiful, brave, and wise.

The Moon sees you, cheers for you, and whispers:

You can do exactly that

— exactly that —

which is in your heart.

The April New Moon is calling your name, and cheering you on to expand into a new expression where you live from a place of abundance, balance, and joy—a place that nourishes your whole being.

New Moon blessings,

April New Moon Practices

Train your intution and instinct

Try playing a game of ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ for a day — from simply choosing whether to have coffee or tea, to feeling into how you want to live your life.

It might seem like a long way from making small everyday choices to making big life decisions. But when we start to train our intuition in small ways, we gradually build the confidence to apply it to the bigger choices too. It’s really similar to building a muscle — it gets stronger as you practise.

Create pockets of peace

Listening to your inner voice is a practice in itself, but during the spring season it is especially potent to listen to what wants to come forward and reveal itself in your life.

In this short journey, Chaosmosis: Breathing through Chaos, you are offered a quick connection to your inner field of potential through a meditation and visualisation practice you can do anywhere, anytime—to centre yourself and reconnect with what lives within you.

Listen on Insight Timer or shop the journey here.

Disentangle Yourself

Acknowledge where you have been entangling yourself in the threads and paths of others — jobs that are not your responsibility, and roles that are not yours to play.

As you step out of these places and roles that don't truly belong in your life, you automatically lighten your load and free up space for the right ones — the ones that nourish and support you — to arrive.

If you find themes of past hurt surfacing, I warmly recommend Brené Brown’s talk on criticism — she is one of the kindest vulnerability cheerleaders around.
