December Cold Moon

The December Cold Moon is the longest full moon of the year. It appears full for three nights, as if the creator intended for us to witness light during the darkest days of the year, around the Winter Solstice.

The December Full Moon is the final full moon of the year. Also known as the Cold Moon or the Long Nights Moon, it invites us to reflect on our feelings as we approach the year’s completion.

The December Full Moon is a call to return to our hearts, to prioritise nurturing ourselves, and to become the safe space we have been craving — to become our own home.

It invites us to cultivate the comfort, security, love and understanding, we are yearning for in the outer world, in our own field and homes. And to gift the feeling of home to ourselves first, before we share it with others.

The Homebody

This Full Moon is here to remind us of the value of knowing ourselves emotionally, to nurture ourselves well and tend to our emotional needs. It's about the deliberate tending of home, family and community through our emotional garden and an unwavering commitment to showing ourselves the same nurturing we offer others.

Family themes and relationships are likely to come into sharper focus for many of us now. Around the Cold Moon, we have an opportunity to deepen our awareness of what family means to us, what security means to us, how we seek to meet our needs and create safety, and how we might re-parent ourselves and cultivate a sense of inner security.

As we lean on our intuition to navigate these closing days of the year, this is a time to be creative in discovering new ways to show up emotionally with courage and confidence. Look to inner beauty, gratitude, and awe to guide you, rather than seeking comfort outside yourself.

Coming Full Circle

Full moons carry an energy of release, culmination, and completion. They reveal how our efforts are coming to fruition, casting full light on where we have grown throughout a cycle.

As the last full moon before the Winter Solstice — when the Wheel of the Sun turns once again — the energy of completion is amplified. The Cold Moon marks not only a peak and maturation point in the lunar cycle; it also signals the closing of a chapter in our lives. At this time of year, we witness the results of our efforts and begin to reap what we have sown since the previous new moon two weeks earlier, and across the past six months since the new moon in the same zodiac sign now activated by the full moon.

Celebrate Your Victories

During these final days of the year, it is a time to celebrate and honour the lessons that have shaped us. The December Cold Moon illuminates where we are in our emotional and personal maturation journey.

As we lean on our intuition to navigate these closing days of the year, this is a time to be creative in discovering new ways to show up emotionally with courage and confidence. Look to inner beauty, gratitude, and awe to guide you, rather than seeking comfort outside yourself.

During the December Cold Moon, we are invited to reflect on our victories — both big and small: every mountain climbed, every hurdle cleared, every act of quiet courage. These moments strengthen us, and each one deserves our recognition.

Take some time under this full moon to honour your journey and embrace its light as you prepare to step into the future with an open heart — ready to receive its beaming light.

This is a powerful moment, where things come full circle. Over the year, you may have been tested on what truly matters to you and who your loved ones really are. Your resilience has been stretched and strengthened. And now, you hold a clearer understanding of what you want to carry with you into the new year.

Tonight I shine a Full Light for you in the longest of Nights,

so that you may hold no fear,

so that you may SEE in the Dark,

so that you may ENVISION your path.

Lighting a New Path

As we celebrate our accomplishments and tend to our emotional needs, we also create space for our dreams and visions for the future. During these darkest days of the year, it is an ideal time to call forth our dream seeds, allowing them to be illuminated by this special lunar moment.

Just as seeds need darkness to sprout — and some even require the cold — the Cold Moon shines a light on our dreams and longings, helping them take shape in the year to come. As one cycle completes, another begins, bringing new opportunities for growth, change, and hope.

This beautiful luminary in the sky reminds us of our ability to shine brightly even in the darkest of times, as it lights a new path ahead. And even though we may not yet see the path or the change we yearn for, it is already forming in the quiet darkness of our dreams for the year ahead. Now is the time to connect with our vision through our emotions, from a centred sense of self — not chasing something outside of us, but calling our desires home.

Tell your stories, dreams, and hopes to the brightest full moon of the year, and know that She is listening and watching over you — like the most patient mother, sending only her best intentions and wanting you to shine just as brightly as she does.

Full Cold Moon Blessings,

December Cold Moon Practices

Come ‘Home’

Whether it’s by returning to your physical home or turning inward, recharge yourself by doing something that genuinely fulfils your needs. By tending to your most basic needs, you begin the process of honouring your emotional and physical well-being. Allow yourself to experiment with small adjustments, and start engaging in activities that nurture both your body and your soul.

Reflect

To ensure your well-being, take some time to reflect on what's currently nurturing you in your life and make a list if needed. It's important to let go of anything that isn't serving you and create space for activities or habits that contribute to your overall nurturing. Reflect on

  • how you feel and how you'd like to feel.

  • where you don't meet your needs and adjust accordingly so you meet them.
