May

May is an invitation to share your unique voice, creativity, and expression with the world, as you learn the sacred art of walking in Beauty.

May is beautiful and exciting month, inviting you to transform life as you know it on many levels. As familiar as you may be with the idea of the big ‘spring clean,’ the changes we’re speaking of this month are more subtle—shifts that begin within, with the potential to transform your outer world in time.

Named after the Greek goddess Maia, associated with fertility and the growth of plants, May is a month to nurture your ideas and feelings around personal freedom, values, and self-worth. Reflect on the insights gained during eclipse season, especially where you feel the need to break free. Apply this newfound wisdom to craft a life that truly nourishes you and honours your values, creativity, and expression.

Astrologically, we now find ourselves on the other side of spring’s eclipse season. The planetary transits may have offered you fresh clarity around where you long for personal growth and transformation, guiding your path as you enter the next season of your life.

The luminous Flower Full Moon at the start of the month will illuminate the ways you can return to yourself. Later, the New Moon arrives like a gentle nurse, offering healing for wounds surfaced during the eclipses. She takes you by the hand into the final stretch of spring, inviting you to savour all of Life’s wonders.

Exploring Themes of Personal Freedom

The energies of May are deeply supportive of your personal freedom and the many ways you choose to express yourself. This is a month of learning—of discovering new ways to communicate and connect with both others and the world around you.

You are being gently guided to recognise where you may have been limiting your own freedom—perhaps through dependency on people or circumstances that, while once offering a sense of security, have begun to feel more like cages than containers of support.

This is a time to become aware of unhealthy dynamics—relationships, habits, or roles—that you’ve leaned on out of fear or familiarity. You’re invited now to release anything you’ve held onto not out of love, but out of fear of stepping into the unknown.

May brings the opportunity to let go of false attachments, outdated identities, and stagnant situations that have kept you from moving forward. This is a liberation—an invitation to discover new ways of being, to express yourself more freely and more truthfully.

Your voice is a key to this freedom. Explore it. Reclaim it. Speak up and share what’s truly in your heart. Communicate in new, brave, authentic ways.

For gentle yet powerful guidance on this journey of reclaiming your voice, I highly recommend Loving Yourself by psychotherapist Daphne Rose Kingma. Her words offer a soft yet steady encouragement to speak up for yourself with honesty, grace, and self-respect.

Take the risk of saying things you’ve never been able to say before. When you speak out, you say now what you couldn’t say then.

The Beauty Way

As nature continues to bloom and open around us, it invites us to once again open ourselves to a sense of wonder. Spring is an eternal miracle—a reminder of the beauty that exists right in front of us. A blooming flower, the warm sun on your skin, and all the little promises carried in the spring air.

As the final month of spring, May offers an invitation to step into a different way of being—one where you truly open yourself to the appreciation of life’s beauty. It is a nourishing and grounding container in which to reflect on your personal sense of security. Ask yourself: What is security, really? What does safety mean to me? What is belonging? What do I value? Who do I value? Do I value myself?

May is truly a time to slow down and reconnect with the intuitive parts of yourself, and to realign with the values that truly matter in your life—your health, your self-worth, and the way you think about and speak to yourself.

This month, try to practise the art of simply being. Open yourself to the beauty in the small, everyday things, and learn to appreciate what is right here, right now.

For more inspiration on how to ‘walk in beauty’, I recommend exploring this months theme The Beauty Way—one of my favourite teachings from Indigenous wisdom traditions.

May Rituals

Slow Down

“The slow way is the fast way.” Instead of chasing your desires, try to embody the energy of yin—drawing things towards you in a feminine, receptive way through simply being. Through love, appreciation, nurturing, and by staying connected to nature, art, and beauty that feeds your soul.

Change Your Story

“I’m always the kind of person who…”
“This always happens to me…”

We all carry stories we tell ourselves—looping patterns of identity that quietly shape our lives like an invisible cage. This month, try letting go of these stories. Reimagine yourself as both the author and the hero(ine) of a new tale. How do you want to write this next chapter?

Speak Up—and Out—for Yourself

Even if it’s only to yourself in the mirror, practise using the power of your voice. Say what you need. What you want. What you hope for. What would make you happy. Speak your anger, your disappointment, your joy. Say what kind of support, friendships, or relationships you truly need. Speak your fears, your hurts, your delights. As you practise connecting with your needs and voicing them, you become more equipped to honour and restore them in the world around you.
