A conversation with Linde Ludmilla ten Broek on slowing down, listening to the soul, and living a life that is truly your own
Linde, can you share in a few words what feels essential in relation to your work around the power of slowing down and living according to your own rhythm?
We are immeasurably powerful. But that power does not come from constant striving or endlessly giving. It arises when we honor our needs. When we set boundaries. When we dare to say no. And most of all—when we listen. To our body. To the quiet voice within. Our true power lives in self-respect, in self-love, and in remembering that we are already enough.
What called you into your practice - and path?
My path into this work began when I chose to stop running. In 2024, I left an exhausting relationship and turned inward. I had to meet myself honestly—to understand how I had arrived in a place that felt so lonely.
That was the beginning of a deeper journey. Not long after, I felt called to walk The Walk of Wisdom near Nijmegen. Alone, and partly in silence. I knew something would shift, and still—I hesitated.
But I went. Step by step, I faced my fears. Of being alone. Of not being safe. Of what I might find within myself. That year, I wrote. A lot. Writing became a mirror, a release, a way back to myself. And slowly, something changed. The whispers I had always felt… became clearer. Softer, but stronger. Until they became a voice. My voice.
In 2026, I walked the Fishermen’s Trail along the Portuguese coast. Six days. Just me, my backpack, the ocean. Life became simple: walking, eating, resting, breathing. The rhythm of the waves. The warmth of the sun. And in that simplicity, something fell away.
Old stories. The need to search outside myself. The urge to do more, be more. I began to feel my body again—not as something to improve, but as something to trust. The ocean reminded me of who I am. It is my medicine.
This inward motion is very similar to what I call ‘Goddess Time’: a place of no time, where our soul can speak to us. Can you share a bit more about these soul whispers?
What I have come to understand is this: The soul is always speaking. Through sensations. Through stillness. Through the quiet moments we often rush past. But we only hear her when we slow down. When we create space. When we allow silence. This is Goddess Time—a place beyond urgency, where nothing is required and everything can be felt.
For a long time, I believed I was someone who thrived in groups. And I do. But I have also discovered something else: I am a woman who needs solitude. Space. Silence. When I am alone, I return to myself. I recharge. I listen. I remember. And from that place, I can meet others fully—without losing myself. We live in a world that constantly pulls us outward. Into noise. Into comparison. Into distraction. But the real journey is inward. As described in the book The Heroine’s Journey by Maureen Murdock, it is a path of remembering. Of coming home to yourself. Not becoming someone new— but uncovering who you already are.
“Power arises when we HONOUR our own needs, SET BOUNDARIES, say no, and GIVE ourselves permission to slowing down, be alone, and feeling what makes you a happy person. Your body is always speaking to you. Always.”
How do you personally tune in on your soul in the current season?
In this season, I tune into my soul by seeking simplicity. Time alone. The ocean. My hands in the earth. Nature reminds me: No matter how long the winter, spring always returns.
Being a writer, how do you use journaling as a practice to slow down and listen to your soul?
Journaling has been one of my greatest teachers. When I read back my own words, I see it clearly: I am not who I was. I have changed. Grown from who I thought I needed to be into who I truly am. More grounded. More free. More me. Be You Ti Ful.
In the end, that is the only thing you are here to be. Not by thinking about it— but by living it. Step by step. Breath by breath. In the here and now.
In your experience—what happens when we come together in shared spaces like the ones you are creating?
When women come together in shared spaces, something powerful can happen. Not because someone tells you who to be—but because you are given the space to feel, to listen, to remember. There is no single way. No program that fits all. Only your way. And that is enough.
It sounds like a practice of deep remembering?
Yes. A remembering—and a softening into it.
Does your soul have any intentions for the coming year, you feel like sharing?
My intention for the coming year is simple: To walk again. To spend more time outside. To create space—for myself, and for others. Perhaps to walk alongside women in silence. To paint, clay, create. To honor. To remember. Because healing begins here: Seeing yourself. Meeting yourself. Loving yourself. Again and again.
As our conversation comes to a close, I am reminded of the words from the book The Heroine’s Journey that echo through your path — and that of many women around us:
Women are WEAVERS
women are CREATORS
women are HEALERS,
women are LOVERS,
women are ALCHEMISTS,
women are SINGERS, DANCERS, PROPHETS, and POETS.
Women are
the PROTECTORS of the SOUL of the Earth.
Help us to be the always hopeful, GARDENERS of the SPIRIT.
